The Dallas Wings began their time in the WNBA as the Detroit Shock in 1998. After winning three championships, the Shock started struggling in 2009. Plagued by losses and a poor economy, the team almost shut down entirely. But in 2016, its owner moved the franchise to Texas, where the team was renamed the Dallas Wings.
