Raymond Damadian and the Story of the MRI

When Raymond Damadian was a student at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, he planned to specialize in internal medicine. However, by the time he was in medical school, he decided to work in medical research instead. After his grandmother passed away from breast cancer, Damadian was more committed than ever. Using the principles of NMR, Damadian built a scanner large enough to study the entire human body. After years of fighting legal battles to protect his patents and financial woes that challenged his every operation, Damadian and the FONAR Corporation continued to produce MRI scanners to aid in the early detection of cancer. This is the story of one man s determination to carry out his dreams.
