"Rumored to have been named after a ball-loving dog named Pickles, pickleball popularity has
skyrocketed in recent years. The game’s simplicity and minimal equipment make it a particularly
fitting activity for kids. In this overview from the Sports for Me series (6 titles), readers will get a
feel for the basics, including terminology, rules, gear, and court layout—this last topic is aided by
a labeled aerial photo of a pickleball court. Though the book’s overall design is lackluster, the
information presented is solid. Short paragraphs in white text boxes are clearly and often
enthusiastically written, while smaller boxes with green font supply pickleball facts and tips.
Large stock photos appear on most pages, and the majority feature children engaged in the
game. Standard back matter rounds out this succinct offering."
