SLJ | Sports For Me

Gr 2-4–Kids who hope to be cat owners should appreciate this set. Most titles, excluding Ragdolls, include a bit of history, then focus on the animal’s physical appearance and behavior traits. Photographs show the variety and the visual appeal of each cat, including images of cute kittens and of children caring for their pets. Specific features, like the feet of the Maine Coon and the Birman’s golden eyes, are highlighted in the photographs. The writing is lively and enthusiastic, usually with a gentle reminder that caring for cats is a serious responsibility. The high price of purebreds is noted in most of the books and several features are aimed at helping a family’s cat choice, including a fact table, a bulleted list of requirements, and a short quiz at the end.

VERDICT A useful and appealing cat breed resource.
