Lorenzo de Zavala

Outside of the borders of Texas, Lorenzo de Zavala s name is little known. But he was an important statesman who became Vice President of the Republic of Texas in 1836. A trusted aide to Stephen Austin, de Zavala fought for Texas independence and then campaigned for Texas to join the United States. Although de Zavala may not be as well known as Sam Houston and Stephen Austin are, his vision and contributions to the state of Texas have forever earned him a place of honor and importance in American history.
