Juan Ponce De Leon

In 1493, Juan Ponce de Leon was among the sailors on Columbus second voyage to the New World. Years later, he set out on his own expedition for the King of Spain to find Bimini. Legend says he was looking for the Fountain of Youth, a magical body of water that could restore a person s health and vitality. There is little evidence that Ponce actually believed these tales, but the art through the ages shows him searching for this fountain, nevertheless. He actually explored the coast of Florida and settled the island of Puerto Rico. His wealth was earned as a plantation owner where he grew sugar cane.
